Get to Know the Team

The Philippines Legal team provides legal, regulatory, compliance, governance and contractual advice to the Grab Philippines Business. You will focus on the Grab Financial Services businesses with particular focus on regulatory matters, contract review and negotiation, and governance matters.

Get to Know the Role

Grab is continuing to expand from its traditional transportation application business into consumer and merchant and financial services. You will have experience in these areas, and in particular in dealing with government regulators and negotiating contracts and governance documentation based on the specific requirements of commercial, payments and financial services businesses.

As the Legal Counsel, GrabFin Philippines, you will report to the General Counsel - Philippines and work onsite in the Grab Pasig City office.

The Critical Tasks You Will Perform

  • Advise on Philippines financial services regulatory licensing and compliance across business units, with an emphasis on areas related payments laws, credit card association rules, and advertising, marketing, and consumer protection laws related to such products and services.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of applicable compliance programs, corporate secretarial matters, coordination with external directors, and responses to regulatory and auditor reports.
  • Advising on and drafting applicable provisions of agreements with vendors, customers, partners, and consultants.
  • Assist with applicable litigation and claims involving the group, and with group wide reporting obligations.
  • Interface with other business support teams within the group, such as Marketing, Corporate Communications, Corporate Finance, Public Affairs, Tax, Accounting, and People Operations.
  • Support our local Finance and Treasury team in applying prudential requirements of Grab's Philippines financial services business.
  • Perform cross-functional work to identify, analyse and mitigate issues related to the introduction of new financial services products and services whilst supporting Grab's regional expansion;
  • Represent Grab's interests and interface directly with regulatory agencies and external counsel, as appropriate.
  • Instruct and manage external advisors and counsels, as necessary.
  • Providing legal and regulatory guidance on the products (design and modification), proactively identify associated risks and recommend mitigation strategies, review product user experiences to ensure legal compliance and proper disclosures.
  • Familiarity with the development and implementation of AML/CFT related compliance requirements.
  • Support our Group General Counsel, Philippines General Counsel, Head of Compliance, and Regional Head of Legal for Grab Financial Group in their activities to ensure seamless support for the Grab business across the Legal & Compliance teams.

Qualifications

What Essential Skills You Will Need

  • Attorney admitted to practice in the Philippines with 3+ years of experience.
  • Good legal technical skills.
  • Corporate and regulatory experience in financial services legal practice.
  • At least 2 years in private practice with a recognized law firm in the Philippines.
