A Mechanical Technician in the commercial vehicle sector plays a crucial role in maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing commercial trucks and other vehicles.
Key Responsibilities:
- Routine Maintenance: Perform regular maintenance tasks such as oil changes, tire rotations, and replacing worn-out parts.
- Diagnostics: Use computerized diagnostic equipment to identify mechanical and electrical issues.
- Repairs: Repair or replace faulty parts and components, including brake systems, transmissions, and engine parts.
- Safety Inspections: Conduct safety inspections to ensure vehicles comply with safety standards.
- Test Drives: Test drive vehicles to ensure repairs have been completed correctly.
- Customer Communication: Communicate with customers or drivers about vehicle problems and the necessary repairs.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of each repair performed on vehicles.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of diesel and gas engines, electrical systems, and hydraulics.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues effectively.
- Attention to Detail: Keen eye for detail to ensure all repairs and maintenance tasks are performed accurately.
- Communication Skills: Good communication skills to explain technical issues to customers and team members.
- Certifications: Certifications such as the Certified Maintenance and Reliability Technician (CMRT) can be beneficial.
Work Environment:
Mechanical Technicians may work in repair shops or on the road in mobile repair units, ensuring that commercial vehicles are always in optimal working condition
