Winton State School is seeking an exceptional and dedicated Principal to lead our school community. As Principal, you will guide and empower staff through collaborative and values-based leadership, promote high standards of teaching and learning, and embed socially just practices across the school.

About Us

Winton State School is part of Education Queensland in the wider Central Queensland Region. Winton is situated in Western Queensland, 178 km north-west of Longreach. There are all-weather highways to Brisbane, Sydney, Rockhampton, Mt Isa and Townsville. Winton is connected by rail to Rockhampton (via Longreach). There are some regular air services, and daily bus services to Brisbane and Mt Isa.

The school has early, middle, junior secondary and senior classes, and most senior students in traineeships. Distance Education is offered in some senior subjects. The school regards itself as continuous P-12 with areas of special expertise, rather than sector-based. Our enrolment driven classes are multi-age.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to;

  • Lead with Vision and Purpose: Inspire the school community to share and commit to an educational vision focused on achieving quality learning outcomes for all students.
  • Model Ethical and Values-Based Leadership: Uphold the principalship as a moral and ethical endeavour, embedding socially just and inclusive practices in everyday school life.
  • Promote Excellence and Growth: Set and maintain high standards for student achievement and staff performance, while actively engaging in lifelong learning and professional development.
  • Build Strong Partnerships: Foster effective collaboration with parents, government agencies, community organisations, industry, and business to enhance educational opportunities.
  • Lead Strategically and Responsibly: Apply a deep understanding of legislation, policy, and resource management to drive future-focused planning and achieve school goals.
