Materials Engineer

Responsible for evaluating, testing, and ensuring the quality and suitability of construction materials used in civil and infrastructure projects. The role involves overseeing material selection, compliance with specifications, quality control procedures, and construction standards to ensure long-term performance, safety, and durability of the project. The Materials Engineer collaborates with design, procurement, and site teams to assess material performance, address non-conformities, and recommend appropriate engineering solutions, thereby contributing to the successful and efficient execution of construction works.
Responsibilities:
- Evaluate materials for dam and hydro infrastructure
- Ensure compliance with project specs and standards
- Recommend suitable alternatives if required - Work with design teams on materials planning
- Ensure environmental and sustainability considerations
- Develop testing protocols.
- Supervise field/lab testing of soil, concrete, aggregates, etc
- Interpret test data for structural suitability
- Liaise with QA/QC teams
- Ensure compliance with safety and durability standards
- Provide technical input during construction.
- Review contractor material submissions
- Assist in troubleshooting material-related issues
- Conduct site inspections - Monitor materials performance
- Maintain current knowledge of dam/hydro material codes
- Ensure adherence to national and international standards
- Document procedures and approvals
- Assist in audits - Coordinate with regulatory bodies
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Materials Engineering
- Licensed Professional Engineer (or equivalent PE license)
- Minimum 5–8 years working on dam or hydropower infrastructure projects.
- Proven experience in lab/field testing for concrete, aggregates, soils.
- Hands-on experience during construction phases of dam/hydro projects
- Involvement in quality assurance and control planning/implementation
- Experience ensuring material standards meet local/international codes
- Material analysis and testing - Technical report writing
- Project management exposure - Supplier and vendor coordination.
- Construction materials in hydraulic structures - National/international material codes-Dam safety protocols
