Junior Analyst, Strategy & Analytics

The Junior Analyst, Strategy & Analytics will primarily assist the Strategy & Analytics team within the BDMC function to conduct analysis (drawing on numerous large data sources) and develop deliverables required by its internal clients. These deliverables will ultimately assist Partners, client teams, and firm leadership in making informed decisions related to the implementation of the firm's strategy at global, regional, and local levels. This role will have inherent firm-wide responsibilities and will sometimes involve exposure to the Firm’s management.
Responsibilities:
- Support ongoing Strategy and Business Analytics projects across regions
- Help Partners understand which clients they should direct their efforts to and what level of returns may be expected by doing so
- Assist Partners in specific client initiatives to help bring new customers and mandates to the Firm
- Assist in the assessment and review of our current business shape to help investigate which legal teams, markets or industries we should prioritize and invest further in soon
- Support new and ongoing client feedback projects globally (e.g., the creation of automated reports for specific business functions, markets, sectors or practice groups)
- Assist in the creation of new operational process improvements, Management Information solutions or data modelling/scoring systems across various practices and functions
- Ad-hoc support on creating presentations, graphics and reports for various senior stakeholders while also being able to comment and present the final output to the customers
- Research support to meet strategic targeting and business development requirements, leveraging external financial information databases, legal and macro-economic reports to help provide market context to the Firm and our clients
- Collaborate on projects involving legal and non-legal technology providers to help the team develop cutting-edge and innovative solutions (including sentiment analyses, machine learning, etc.)
- Advocate the use of effective decision-making techniques and efficiency-enhancing behaviors, including Business Analytics, Pricing, Legal Project Management and Legal AI in your various interventions
- Contribute to the development of the Strategy & Analytics team by improving how we work and share knowledge
- For context, the following Strategy & Analytics projects are typical of the work with which the Analyst will be expected to assist:
- Supporting the firm's European markets with their annual strategy workshops to help align their goals with the firm's Orion Alliance priorities - drawing on their changing macroeconomic environments, our competitive position in those markets, the high-value services we should be focusing on, and the profit dynamics of their client bases
- Developing and analyzing options for addressing parts of the firm which have a high reliance on less-profitable clients
- Developing and communicating a suite of tools that enable internal business users to self-serve information pertinent to their business planning cycle, to target clients more efficiently, to price and staff matters profitably, and to track their performance
Skills and Experience:
- A relevant undergraduate degree (Math, Statistics, Computer Science, Chartered Accountancy or Business strongly preferred) with demonstration of consistently strong academic performance
- Strong data manipulation skills. Skills and concepts which the Analyst will be expected to apply include: joins; blends; creating custom calculations; level-of-detail calculations; sequential filtering; understanding the software's order-of-operations; describing granularity of the view; creating tabular data; restructuring data into a form appropriate for the analysis; handling data with multiple periodicities; capturing clean data from primary research; describing the limits of data captured; optimizing calculation and size efficiency; and efficiently preparing workbooks. The Analyst will be expected to demonstrate these skills in a Tableau or similar environment before the conclusion of their probation period. Existing familiarity with these concepts is a significant plus.
- Prior experience in an analogous field, such as Management Consulting, Data Analytics, Finance, or Corporate Strategy, preferred

- Able to distil complex information into commercially relevant findings and to draw insights from complex datasets
- Critical thinker, who can challenge the robustness of the story drawn from data and suggest means of gaining more appropriate insights
- A high level of attention to detail
- Can demonstrate initiative and manage work independently
- Will engage proactively with managers to seek input and resolve risks and issues
- Able to engage with a variety of teams with significant differences in their perspectives (e.g. Technology, Finance, Business Development and Client teams) to help the group achieve its objectives
- Has an understanding of corporate transactions and the different market databases available (e.g. Bloomberg, LSEG, Capital IQ, etc.) preferred
- Experience of financial systems (e.g. SAP), common business applications (Excel, Access, SQL, Tableau) and programming languages (Python, VBA) strongly preferred
- Experience with GAI solutions (Chat GPT, Gemini, etc.) and prompt engineering
- First-rate written and oral communication skills in English and the primary business language of your location
- Able to withstand pressure during busy periods, while keeping high-quality execution and respect for fast-moving, urgent deadlines
- Can show a deep and current understanding of political, legal and economic news to provide context to the work outputs
