Salmon – Who We Are and What We Do

Salmon is a rapidly expanding consumer FinTech group, founded in July 2022, with the mission of creating the premier credit-led, tech-driven bank in Southeast Asia. We have chosen the Philippines as our launch market, where we are now a licensed bank and consumer-lending group.

Founded by three visionary co-founders who held senior leadership positions at Tinkoff — a highly successful tech-enabled bank that reached a market capitalization exceeding US$20bn — Salmon leverages their extensive expertise.

We have built a global team of skilled finance and technology professionals and are supported by world-class investors, including the International Finance Corporation (a member of the World Bank Group), Lunate (an investment vehicle affiliated with the sovereign wealth fund of Abu Dhabi), and other prominent fintech investors.

At Salmon, we’re developing a financial technology business that operates seamlessly 24/7, creating thousands of jobs, and providing millions of Filipinos with high-quality access to finance. Join us as we explore the new world of financial technology together.

About the Role – Financial Controller, Group

We are seeking a results-driven Financial Controller to lead and manage the Group’s finance and accounting operations, overseeing improvements in financial processes, compliance, and control procedures.

The Group includes a holding company located in the Abu Dhabi Global Market, alongside four operating subsidiaries in the Philippines, one of which is a licensed bank.

This is a senior leadership position that reports directly to the CFO.

The ideal candidate will possess a solid background in senior finance and accounting leadership, with a proven ability to optimize financial processes within a licensed bank or consumer finance group, particularly across multiple entities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and personally oversee a broad spectrum of financial operations, including accounting (from booking entries to generating accurate reports), treasury and cash management, payroll processing, global banking relationships, tax compliance, and the creation of relevant policies and controls.
  • Manage the finance and accounting team, supporting their career development and skill enhancement.
  • Ensure the timely preparation of accurate financial statements, ensuring full compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard the Group’s interests.
  • Analyze financial data and offer insights to inform business decisions.
  • Effectively manage cash flow, working capital, and financial risks.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and entities within the Group, providing financial input on corporate actions, new products, services, and special projects.
  • Monitor financial performance, perform variance analysis, and recommend corrective actions where necessary.
  • Manage relationships with auditors, tax authorities, and external financial partners.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, best practices, and evolving regulations.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on accounting and finance matters to support ongoing and future business initiatives.
  • Prepare and present detailed financial reports to senior management and key stakeholders.
  • Perform other responsibilities as required for the Financial Controller role.

Qualifications

Must-Haves

  • CPA and a degree in Accounting from a reputable university.
  • Strong expertise in IFRS and consolidation accounting for group entities.
  • Fluency in English with the ability to communicate effectively in an international environment.
  • Exceptional critical thinking, intellectual rigor, and the ability to perform at international standards.
  • Proven leadership in managing and executing cross-functional projects from start to finish.
  • Ability to thrive in high-pressure environments with tight deadlines; those who cannot handle stress will not succeed at Salmon.
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in Finance/Accounting.
  • At least 5 years in a senior management role (Financial Controller, VP or Head of Finance/Accounting, or equivalent) overseeing multiple entities within a Group.
  • Comfortable and willing to work in a fast-paced, dynamic startup environment, with a hands-on approach and a solutions-driven, problem-solving mindset.

Preferred but Not Mandatory

  • 3-5 years of audit experience, particularly auditing banks or consumer finance companies.
  • Experience working in a banking group or consumer lending business.
  • Experience in a startup environment.
  • Familiarity with both manual and automated accounting systems, with experience implementing computerized accounting systems a plus.
