Job Summary

Operate vehicles and handle the distribution of materials safely and efficiently. Drive assigned routes and transport documents, materials, mail, tools and equipment to all maintenance districts and downtown locations. Transport automotive parts to and from contracted vendors. Provide transportation services to all divisions within the department. Performs other duties as assigned. This position's territory is County Wide.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or General Education Development Test (G.E.D.) Certificate is required.
  • Three (3) years of work experience as a courier or delivery driver in a role involving route-based delivery operations is required.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance is required.

This position is considered a safety-sensitive position. Candidates who are selected to fill safety-sensitive positions must pass a required drug test as part of the pre-employment background check process.

  • Degrees awarded outside of the United States with the exception of those awarded in one of the United States territories and Canada, must be credentialed by the World Education Services (WES), Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE) or a National Association of Credential Evaluation (NACES) member organization.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And Other Characteristics

  • Skill in the operation of vans and passenger vehicles in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Skill and proficiency in the use of two-way radios and Global Positioning Systems (GPS).
  • Skill in the organization and prioritization of the most efficient manner to deliver and pick up various items.
  • Ability to prioritize work, coordinate tasks, meet deadlines, manage and prioritize tasks and work without close supervision daily.
  • Ability to manage a variety of distributions throughout the County to ensure cost efficiencies.
  • Ability to respond to telephone, radio, and/or email requests in a timely, courteous, and accurate manner while functioning in a fast-paced, ever-

changing environment.

  • Ability to communicate with the public in a courteous manner either via phone, email, and/or in person.
  • Ability to follow directions and coordinate the pickup and drop off various items.
  • Ability to participate in various types of physical exertions, including, but not limited to lifting, pulling, pushing and moving objects of moderate

to medium weight.

Physical Requirements:

Medium Work involves exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently or an

amount greater than negligible and up to 10 pounds constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

Hourly Wage: $26.658

  • This position requires successful completion of post-offer tests, which may include a background check, drug screen and medical examination.
