Your Role

As Collection Officer, you will:

• Debt Collection: Contact customers to collect overdue payments by phone, email,
  
  

or mail, ensuring a respectful and persistent approach.

• Account Management: Monitor and manage accounts receivable, ensuring all
  
  

debts are collected within agreed terms.

• Negotiation: Negotiate payment plans or settlements with customers when
  
  

necessary, ensuring that both the company and the customer are satisfied with the

arrangements.

• Records Maintenance: Accurately record all communication and interactions with
  
  

customers in the company’s system, ensuring up-to-date and detailed account

histories.

• Legal Compliance: Ensure all collection activities comply with legal and regulatory
  
  

standards, including consumer protection laws.

• Reporting: Generate and present reports on the status of accounts and collections
  
  

efforts to management, highlighting delinquent accounts, payment trends, and

areas requiring special attention.

• Collaboration: Work with internal departments such as finance, sales, and
  
  

customer service to resolve customer disputes and maintain accurate account

information.

• Customer Service: Address customer inquiries related to overdue accounts,
  
  

providing professional and empathetic support to resolve issues that may be

delaying payments.

• Payment Processing: Assist in the processing of payments, ensuring that all
  
  

incoming payments are correctly allocated to customer accounts.

• Debt Recovery Procedures: Recommend and initiate legal or collection agency
  
  

processes for severely delinquent accounts, following the company’s escalation

policies.

Non-negotiables

What You Need:

• A degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field is a plus.
• Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a collections or credit control role.
  
  

Preferred skills/expertise:

• Proficiency in financial software and accounting systems (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle), along with strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Excel).
• Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally.
• Negotiation Skills: Strong negotiation and problem-solving abilities, with the ability to maintain a firm but diplomatic stance.
• Organizational Skills: Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple accounts simultaneously.
• Familiarity with the legal processes related to debt collection.
• Experience in [insert industry-specific debt collection knowledge, e.g., telecommunications, healthcare, etc.].
• Knowledge of credit and risk assessment.
