Cloud Operations Engineer

Responsibilities and Duties

Operation of Cloud Infrastructure and Hosted Applications

• Perform hosted infrastructure maintenance (backups, updates, etc.)

• Provision access to hosted infrastructure (IAM, security groups, WAF white/blacklists, etc.)

• Patching and security updates of hosted infrastructure (servers, databases, caches, etc.)

Monitoring of Cloud Infrastructure and Hosted Applications

• Manage log capture, retention and alerting (DataDog, CloudWatch)

• Manage catalog of application metadata (escalation paths, resource dependencies, etc.)

• Monitor cloud infrastructure costs to identify outlier/unexpected spend

• Manage alerts to detect errors and outages for hosted application and infrastructure

Deployment of Applications

• Execute CI/CD pipeline deployments

• Execute SQL queries, schema and data updates

• Manual installation and updating of third-party application platforms

• Assist with migration of data and file assets for external systems

Troubleshooting of Cloud Infrastructure and Hosted Applications

• Respond to alerts and escalations of outages

• Assist NOC and engineering teams in gathering logs, metrics, etc. when diagnosing issues

• Create and follow-up on action items identified during outage reviews

Technical Skills

• AWS EC2, ECS, S3, CloudFront, API Gateway, Lambda

• Linux OS and scripting (BASH, PERL, etc.)

• Administration of monitoring and alerting using an enterprise monitoring tool (DataDog, NewRelic, Nagios, etc.)

• SQL (ability to execute SQL scripts, administer MySQL user permissions)

Education and Work Experience

• Two years of professional experience managing applications in the AWS cloud

• Bachelor’s Degree or greater

• [Preferred] AWS Certified Associate (or greater) - Solutions Architect, SysOps , DevOps or Developer
