We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Associate, Local Corporates.


The purpose of the role is to:

  • Develop and manage a portfolio of mid-sized Philippine corporate customers with complex credit and product requirements;
  • Contribute to the Bank’s overall profitability – maximizing onshore and outbound revenue from new and existing master groups and its subsidiaries, while identifying new business opportunities and portfolio growth potential amidst a competitive and highly regulated environment.
  • Plan and implement a relationship strategy for each customer that is in line with local operating plan and Group’s global strategy.
  • Ensure that the highest level of service is provided to customer.
  • Apply the Group’s CDD, credit and other risk standards to the portfolio, assuming ultimate responsibility and ownership of the risk associated with the customers.


In this role, you will:

  • Achieve the department’s financial targets and contribute to the Banks’ overall profitability.
  • Identify various opportunities for business growth onshore and outbound, in line with the Group’s growth strategy; develop and build close working relationships with the existing client base to maximize returns on current business and steadily grow share of wallet via effective cross-selling of other Bank products; expand the existing client portfolio with new Banking names, via a strategic customer calling program, resulting in an increase in our share of competitor’s business; understand the client’s financial targets and local requirements to be able to propose innovative business solutions; achieve all preset and agreed quantitative targets.
  • Maintain strong local business relationships that contribute to the overall global relationship and provide high quality customer service at all times
  • Provide clients with appropriate and compelling propositions/solutions based on professional account management and a good understanding of their requirements; document for each customer relationship plans and actions that are shared with the global Client Service Team, sector groups and product groups for a coordinated approach to relationship management; maintain cordial and professional relationships across all levels within the client’s organization, especially with key decision-makers, through pro-active and regular dialogue; ensure a high standard of customer service by acting as liaison for various product groups/operating units in MNL and the rest of the HSBC Group; ensure immediate response to client requirements, resolution to problems within designated turnaround times, and zero client complaints; provide value added service to customers by providing feedback on changing regulations/policies that may affect their business.
  • Contribute to up-skilling of junior colleagues to contribute to their development and maximize their effectiveness.

  • Safeguard the Banks’ interest and minimize risk.
  • Review credit proposals for his portfolio and ensures these are completed on time and according to the Group’s high credit standards and risk-reward appetite; ensure the quality of existing borrowing relationships by monitoring facility utilization, account conduct and exceptions, ensuring these are regularized within set deadlines and coordinating with Risk for strategies, actions and mitigants in cases of weakening credits; keeps abreast of changing market, industry and regulatory trends that may impact the bank and the customers’ businesses and escalate as appropriate; ensure completeness of all security documents and compliance with all relevant internal and external audit, policy and guidelines; maintain HSBC internal control standards including timely implementation of internal and external audit items; manage operational risk including its identification, assessment, mitigation and control, loss identification and reporting; satisfactorily completes all CDD/KYC requirements set by the bank on all existing and target customers and escalate as appropriate; keep oneself updated with CDD/BSP/Audit/KYC requirements and regulations; ensure customers are well-informed of any new or internal or external regulations that will impact their relationship with the bank.


To be successful in this role, you should meet the following requirements:


  • Five to ten years of significant work experience in corporate banking, preferably in handling large local corporate clients and conglomerates
  • Sound knowledge in corporate, markets and investment banking products and well-versed in regulations relating to such products and services.
  • Strong credit and analytical skills
  • Strong customer orientation with inclination towards developing relationships.
  • Can work with considerable autonomy but at the same time is a team player.
  • Excellent written, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Personal drive and initiative to take on and efficiently handle significant work volumes under pressure.
