Assessment Development Specialist in Science

The Assessment Development Specialist is responsible for the overall design and construction of assessments or tests. They focus on creating the structure and content of the entire assessment, which may include selecting the types of items to be used, defining the content domains to be covered, and determining the weighting of different sections or topics.

1. Develop assessment blueprints, content frameworks, and item specifications that guide the creation of assessments.

2. Ensure assessments align with specific learning objectives, content domains, and assessment goals

3. Collaborate with test item writers to create test items (questions) that are aligned with assessment goals and content specifications.

4. Conduct test item reviews to evaluate item quality, clarity, and adherence to guidelines.

5. Facilitate test item review meetings and gather feedback from subject matter experts.

6. Perform quality checks on assessments, ensuring they meet psychometric standards and industry best practices.

7. Identify and address issues related to item bias, discrimination, and fairness 8. Work with psychometricians to conduct item analysis, calculate reliability and validity coefficients, and interpret assessment data.

9. Use statistical techniques to improve the overall quality of assessments.

10. Coordinate assessment development projects, including managing timelines, milestones, and communication among team members.

11. Ensure that assessments are developed and delivered on schedule.

12. Maintain detailed records of assessment development processes, decisions, and revisions.

13. Document item specifications and assessment development procedures.

JOB SPECIFICATION

Education:

• A bachelor's degree in education, assessment and evaluation, psychology or a related field is typically required. A master's or doctorate may be preferred for advanced roles.

Experience(s):

• 2-5 years of experience in assessment development or a related field.

 Proficiency in assessment design and psychometric principles Specific Knowledge:

 In-depth knowledge of assessment development processes, including item writing, review, and revision.

 Understanding of psychometric concepts and principles.

 Familiarity with industry standards and best practices in assessment development

 Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage complex assessment development projects.

 Excellent written and verbal communication skills for collaboration with team members and subject matter experts.

 Attention to detail and a commitment to quality assurance.

 Proficiency in assessment development software and statistical analysis tools.
