The Contract Management Subject Matter Expert (SME) is a pivotal role responsible for guiding and executing the full spectrum of vendor contract activities within the team. This individual serves as the primary expert on contract administration and management best practices, providing crucial interpretation and guidance to business stakeholders.

Position Responsibilities

  • Subject Matter Expertise & Guidance: Serve as the primary Subject Matter Expert (SME) on all facets of contract management and administration. Provide expert interpretation and guidance on contractual provisions, best practices, and internal processes to business stakeholders and team members.
  • Contract Drafting & Review: Draft, review, redline, and amend vendor contracts, including both standard templates and complex, free-form agreements as needed. Ensure contracts accurately reflect business requirements and incorporate stakeholder feedback meticulously.
  • Risk Assessment & Mitigation: Proactively identify, analyze, and clearly communicate potential risks, liabilities, and compliance issues within contract terms and requirements. Recommend practical and effective steps to mitigate identified risks.
  • End-to-End Contract Lifecycle Management: Take ownership of and manage the full contract lifecycle from request to execution and beyond. This includes diligently tracking progress, expediting necessary inputs, and proactively following up with cross-functional teams (Legal, Procurement, Business Units, etc.) to ensure adherence to stakeholder timelines, collaborating closely with the Contract Admin Team Lead.
  • Quality Assurance: Develop and perform rigorous quality checks on contracts, associated legal documents, operational tasks, and internal processes to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company standards.
  • Contract Administration & Systems Management: Efficiently administer contracts using designated contracting systems (e.g., Google platforms), ensuring accurate data entry, document management, and record keeping.
  • Reporting & Analysis: Generate and maintain relevant team metrics reports. Undertake special projects as assigned, such as in-depth contract analysis, trend reporting, and data compilation to support strategic decision-making.
  • Process Support: Actively contribute to and support various contract management and administration related tasks and initiatives as required by the team and business needs.
  • Project Leadership & Execution: Lead or coordinate specific projects aimed at enhancing service delivery, implementing new technologies or procedures, or driving operational efficiencies within the team, managing timelines and resources effectively.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Contract Administration & Lifecycle Management: Possess comprehensive experience centered on contract administration and management. Demonstrated expertise in managing the end-to-end contract lifecycle, including intake processing, coordinating reviews, efficient routing for necessary approvals.
  • Process Facilitation & Communication: Exhibit superior written and verbal communication skills, essential for effectively liaising between internal departments (e.g., Legal, Procurement, Business Units) and external parties during the contract routing, approval, and ongoing administration phases. Adept at providing clear status updates, explaining procedural requirements, resolving administrative queries, and facilitating timely contract progression.
  • Analytical & Compliance Monitoring: Skilled in meticulously reviewing contract data for accuracy, tracking compliance requirements, managing critical dates (renewals, expirations), and proactively resolving administrative discrepancies.
  • Collaboration & Workflow Coordination: Proven ability to act as a central coordinator, working collaboratively and effectively with diverse internal teams and external stakeholders throughout the contract administration lifecycle. Highly responsive in managing complex approval workflows, facilitating smooth handoffs between parties, and ensuring contracts move efficiently through all required administrative steps from initiation to close-out.

  • Google CLM Systems Experience: Demonstrated experience using Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM) software and contracting tools relevant to Google's operational environment.
  • Advanced Contract Drafting & Review: Significant experience drafting, reviewing, and redlining a variety of vendor/supplier contracts, ensuring alignment with business requirements and risk tolerance.
  • Cross-Functional Communication Expertise: Proven ability to effectively communicate complex contractual information and process requirements tailored to diverse audiences, including business users, Legal counsel, Procurement professionals, and senior business leaders.
  • Process Improvement Acumen: Demonstrated experience identifying process inefficiencies within contract management or related operations, and successfully contributing to or leading initiatives for improvement.
