Function Name: Analyst, Trading, BCQ & AS Reconciliation

Mission of Function: The Trading Analyst is responsible for the conduct of research and analysis on the financial, economic, and statistical information for the use of AP Energy Trading in their strategies

Responsibilities

I. Market Price Forecasting and Trading Analysis

  • Develops and applies financial models for valuing effects of grid events on plant gross margin on sales/purchases of spot energy
  • Support in developing market dispatch optimization models and scenarios using the forecasting software; determines dispatch schedules and energy prices for the preparation of market price projections for trading purposes
  • Prepares financial model templates and reports and tracks the day’s trade on negative trades (buy – sell), tactical, and trader response performance audit
  • Updates and maintains the trading audit spreadsheet which model evaluates the day’s trading actions, gross revenues per plant traded, and possible breaches in WESM rules
  • Ensures that trading activities are consistent with offering policies set by the company, as well as to the rules, regulations and policies, of WESM/ERC/DOE and other regulatory agencies critical in the trading operations and related activities

II. Bilateral Contract Management

  • Maintains and updates the customer nominations (monthly, weekly, daily) for the preparation of the customer load profile for the daily requirements of the Traders in the development of strategies on plant dispatch for the customer load requirements and spot quantities
  • Monitors and performs analysis in the projected versus actual energy consumption of customers
  • Conducts the allocation of bilateral contract quantities (BCQ) to the plant output and the declaration/re-declaration of the same BCQ into the WESM, ensuring correct financial flows both to the generation company and to the customers

III. Records Management and Reporting

  • Support in maintaining and archiving market data, trading records, and customer data for easy retrieval of information needed for future analyses
  • Prepares reports on trading outcome and other related reports (e.g. preparation of supporting documents for responses to PEMC investigations on possible breaches in WESM rules) as required by the Management and other in-house groups

IV. Others

  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities that may be assigned by the TL
  • Conforms to the company’s Quality, Environmental, Occupational Health and Safety and Information Security Management Systems policies, standards, procedures and guidelines based on ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 and ISO 27001 Standards.
  • Protects information assets from unauthorized access, disclosure, modification, destruction or interference in accordance with ISMS policies.

Competencies (Knowledge-Experience-Capabilities)

  • Knowledge of financial modeling, gross margin analysis modeling, and financial risk modeling
  • Knowledge of WESM, client business processes, and business operations of trading counterparties
  • Analytical skills in terms of competitive market behavior for purposes of offering in the market
  • Knowledge of market data and competitive offers in the market
  • Knowledge of computer systems (especially programs which require numerical proficiency)
  • Ability to be resourceful, to be results-oriented, and to handle the pace and demands in an evolving power industry
  • Communication skills (Oral and Written)

Experience (No. Of Years)

  • Professional: At least 2 years’ experience in the power industry, preferably in energy planning or financial risk modeling (Fresh graduates may also be considered if with excellent scholastic records)
  • Leadership: None required
  • Project: None required

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Finance, or any 4-year business course

License Required: None required
