About The Role ….

The Specialised SMSF Accountant will be responsible for preparing and managing SMSF accounts, working papers, and annual tax returns. The role requires advanced knowledge of SMSF regulations, strategies, and compliance, as well as proficiency in key software tools. You will demonstrate exceptional attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to troubleshoot complex SMSF issues, and giving feedback to the client managers/accountants.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare accurate SMSF financial statements, working papers, and tax returns in compliance with Australian Taxation Office (ATO) regulations.
• Liaise with an Australian based auditor
• Utilise SF360 (BGL) for SMSF administration, accounting, tax returns and lodgements.
• Manage client data and documentation via OneDrive and Outlook, complimented by PDF editor tools
• Competent with Microsoft Excel
• Provide expert advice and troubleshooting on SMSF strategies, including but not limited to:
• Effective pension trigger dates.
• Overcontribution troubleshooting.
• Pension drawings troubleshooting.
• Accidental short-term borrowings/loans with related parties.
• Crypto investment activities.
• Communicate clearly and professionally with internal teams and, when required via email and Microsoft Teams, as well clients via email when necessary.
• Ensure timely delivery of work while maintaining high standards of accuracy and compliance. Essentially chasing up managers for working papers deliveries and ensuring our lodgement program is being managed without late lodgements.
• Stay updated on SMSF legislation, ATO rulings, and industry best practices.
  
  

Qualifications / Skills

• Advanced SMSF Expertise: Minimum of 4 years of specialised experience in SMSF accounting, with proven expertise in Australian SMSF compliance, regulations, and strategies (e.g., pension triggers, overcontributions, crypto investments, related-party loans).
• Software Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in SF360 (BGL), OneDrive, Outlook, and Excel for SMSF administration and reporting.
• Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written English communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex SMSF concepts clearly and professionally.
• Accountant-Facing Experience: Comfortable engaging directly with the accountants within the group to discuss and explain SMSF strategies or resolve queries.
• Attention to Detail: Exceptional accuracy in preparing financial statements, tax returns, and working papers, ensuring compliance with ATO standards.
• Reliability and Time Management: Ability to meet strict deadlines and manage multiple client portfolios efficiently in a remote work environment.
• Team growth: As the need for greater capacity requires, be responsible for Philippines based junior SMSF dedicated staff.

• Additional Certifications: CPA, CA, or SMSF-specific qualifications (e.g., SMSF Association accreditation).
• Broader Financial Knowledge: Experience with other Australian accounting standards or financial planning.
• Crypto Expertise: In-depth knowledge of cryptocurrency investments within SMSFs, including tax implications and reporting.
• Process Improvement: Experience in identifying and implementing efficiencies in SMSF workflows or software usage.
