Utilize coding skills to work invoice reviews and provide expert advice to billing staff.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Responsible for thoroughly reviewing patient’s medical records and ensure all documentation is complete for accurate code reporting and appropriate payment of claims.
- Interpret, assign and sequence diagnosis and procedure codes from various types of electronic health records in accordance with the current International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM),Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) and Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) guidelines and policies.
- Comply with Medicare, Medicaid and other commercial payers in terms of policy requirements including coding initiatives and guidelines.
- Ensure all patient’s data and other protected health information (PHI) are treated with utmost confidentiality in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards.
- Work independently from assigned work queues within a client system.
- Maintain a professional attitude at all times.
- Other duties as may be assigned by the management team in accordance with client-specific guidelines.
Qualifications
- Candidate must either be an AAPC or AHIMA certified coder
- Graduate of any medical allied course or equivalent
- Minimum two years of coding experience related to the specialty needed (same day surgery)
- Thorough knowledge of anatomy and physiology including understanding of basic pharmacology and medical terminology.
- Above average communication skills in both oral and written forms.
- Knowledgeable in different Microsoft office systems such as Excel, Outlook and Word.
- Familiar with widely used coding-related software such as Cerner, Athena, Meditech, Epic, 3M and Encoder Pro.
- Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to move around the work area; Sit; perform manual tasks; operate tools and other office equipment such as computer, computer peripherals and telephones; extend arms; kneel; talk and hear.
- Mental Demands: The employee must be able to follow directions, collaborate with others, and handle stress.
- Work Environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal. The employee’s work environment must be a conducive place for productive work. Employee must have a dedicated workspace when working from home to ensure confidentiality of patient records.
