Research Topic and Significance
The Research Assistant position is centered in a human stem cell biology and neuroscience laboratory, supporting projects under the direction of Principal Investigator Dr. Irene Lorenzo Llorente. Project Details
The Successful Applicant Will Join a Vibrant Research Team Based At The Stanford University And Palo Alto VA Medical Center Campus. The Lab Specializes In Human Stem Cell Biology And Neuroscience And Offers a Unique Opportunity To Work With Cutting-edge Technologies And Methodologies. The Research Assistant Will Be Involved In a Variety Of Essential Tasks, Including
– Production, maintenance, and quality control of human pluripotent stem cells.
– Cellular analysis using immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, DNA/RNA isolation, PCR, and other molecular biology techniques.
– Operation of sophisticated laboratory instruments such as flow cytometers, automated fluorescence microscopes, plate washers, automated pipettors, and liquid handling robotics.
– Conducting behavioral testing and analysis in murine models, as well as performing animal surgeries for cellular transplantation and stroke induction.
– Managing laboratory supplies, preparing media and stock solutions, and ensuring compliance with institutional and federal health, safety, and animal regulations.
– Preparing figures and protocols, teaching lab techniques, and contributing to the overall success of the research team.
Candidate Profile
Qualifications
This position is ideally suited for highly motivated, detail-oriented, and conscientious individuals with a passion for biomedical research. Candidates should possess the following qualifications:
– Required: Bachelor’s degree.
– 0-1 year of undergraduate or post-graduate research laboratory experience.
– Preferred: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or a related discipline.
– More than 1 year of research laboratory experience is a plus.
– Demonstrated interest and, ideally, hands-on experience in areas such as human cell culture, human pluripotent stem cell techniques, CRISPR genome editing, molecular biology, animal handling, behavioral testing, ddPCR, FACS, and confocal microscopy.
– Willingness to work with animals and human tissues.
– Strong organizational skills, work ethic, ability to multi-task, and meet deadlines.
– Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
