A Procurement Specialist manages a procurement group of contracting specialists or buyers.
The Procurement Specialist is responsible for business operations of the procurement
division, branch or section by reviewing procurement contracts, purchase requisitions and
creating request for proposals for goods and services.
The Procurement Specialist also monitors excess and obsolete costs.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
Administration
- Approve vendor relationships and suspend relationships if vendors are overpricing or
conducting unfair negotiations
- Where appropriate, be involved in the preparation of tender evaluation and supplier
agreement documentation
- Review procurement policies and procedures on an annual basis (or more frequently, as
required) to ensure opportunities for improvement are utilised
- Monitor marketplace changes and other issues as they relate to procurement to keep abreast of developments which may affect Crown’s procurement function or outcomes
- Provide regular progress reports to senior managers regarding Crown’s procurement strategies and cost savings derived from these strategies
- Follow up with stakeholders wherever Crown’s policy has not been followed
- Investigate and take necessary action in respect of various procurement related queries
Customer Service
- Develop and maintain relationships with the internal and external key stakeholders to ensure satisfactory outcomes for all parties involved
- Work collaboratively with Crown staff with purchasing responsibilities to develop
- procurement strategies to identify likely areas for more cost effective purchasing
Leadership
- Where applicable, supervise procurement staff to ensure prompt processing of vendor applications
- Coordinate activities of Crown staff engaged in contract negotiation, buying and selling of equipment materials and services
Training
- Deliver targeted training and awareness on procurement related policies and topics for
- Crown’s staff with purchasing responsibilities
Professional Knowledge and Skills
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to build collaborative relationships with multiple and diverse stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience in procurement / purchasing (preferred).
- Well-developed administration and organisation skills with strong attention to detail.
- Proficient computer skills with experience using Microsoft Office including Word, Excel,
PowerPoint, Outlook, Publisher or equivalent.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Cultural sensitivity and awareness.
Qualifications
Bachelors Degree in related field and / or practical experience.
