The Payment Posting Specialist is responsible for accurately recording and applying payments for substance abuse and mental health services, ensuring that all payments are processed and applied in a timely manner. This role involves handling insurance claims, verifying payment accuracy, and maintaining effective communication with insurance companies and internal departments.
Job Description
• Organize, process, and maintain payments for substance abuse and mental health services.
• Record and apply all payments using CMD software.
• Ensure that all payments are acknowledged and correctly applied.
• Submit charge requests for secondary payments.
• Analyze claim reimbursements for accuracy and completeness.
• Stay updated on insurance payer requirements and changes.
• Conduct phone calls to insurance companies for payment reprocessing and reissuance.
• Gather payment status through portal navigation and phone calls.
• Communicate required actions to receive payments and departmental needs to the supervisor.
Required Qualifications
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong analytical skills to accurately record and apply payments, ensuring all entries align with payment records and service details.
• Identifies and resolves payment discrepancies and issues in a timely manner.
• Clear and coherent in both written and verbal communication skills to effectively address inquiries from insurance companies and internal departments.
• Continuously seeks ways to improve the accuracy and efficiency of payment posting processes, ensuring thoroughness and precision in all financial records.
• Displays sound judgment in processing payments and resolving issues, making accurate decisions based on payment data and insurance information.
• Strong time management skills with ability to develop realistic action plans to ensure timely and accurate processing of payments.
• Observes safety and security procedures related to handling sensitive payment information to maintain data integrity and confidentiality.
Screening Criteria
• High school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience.
• At least two (2) years of experience in payment processing, claims management, and/or medical billing.
• Must have a stable employment history.
