Role Overview
The Project Manager for IT and Security is responsible for the successful planning, execution, and delivery of technology and cybersecurity initiatives critical to Athena’s operational stability, scalability, and compliance. This role demands both strategic alignment with IT and ecurity roadmaps and tactical project leadership, managing details and driving execution.
Operating across infrastructure, systems, security controls, and compliance initiatives, the Project Manager ensures that projects meet objectives, minimize risk, and deliver measurable value to the organization.

Role Overview

Duties & Responsibilities
DUTIES
- End-to-End Project Management: Lead projects from initiation through planning, execution, monitoring, and closure across IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, and compliance domains.
- Strategic Alignment: Translate IT and security strategy into actionable project plans, ensuring alignment with broader business objectives
- Scope and Resource Planning: Work with IT, Security, and business leaders to define project scope, develop resource plans, and establish realistic timelines.
- Project Governance: Ensure adherence to Athena’s project management standards, documentation practices, and reporting requirements.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate across IT, Security, Compliance, and Operations teams to align deliverables and remove project roadblocks.
- Risk Management: Identify technical and security risks early, implement mitigation strategies, and maintain compliance with security and data protection standards.
- Tactical Delivery: Build and maintain detailed project plans, manage day-to-day execution activities, monitor project budgets, and ensure milestones are met.
- Strategic Contribution: Connect project deliverables to IT and security roadmaps, operational continuity goals, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Stakeholder Management: Engage sponsors, team members, and vendors to ensure clear understanding of project scope, progress, risks, and changes.
- Vendor Coordination: Manage relationships with technology and security vendors for hardware, software, and service deployments.
- Status Reporting: Prepare and deliver clear, concise updates for technical teams and executive stakeholders, escalating issues promptly when needed.
- Continuous Improvement: Capture lessons learned and integrate them into future project management practices and IT/security operational planning.
INTERNAL STAKEHOLDERS
- Director, Data Engineering and Analytics: Provides strategic direction and oversight for data initiatives.
- Data Engineers and Analysts: Collaborate on building data pipelines, analytics models, and reporting solutions.
- Business Leaders: Ensure alignment of data projects with broader organizational objectives.
- IT and Security Teams: Ensure adherence to data governance, privacy, and security standards.
- Technology Vendors: Provide tools and platforms for data engineering and analytics solutions.
- Consultants and Industry Experts: Offer guidance on best practices and emerging trends in data management and analytics.
- Project Management Proficiency: Strong understanding of project management principles and techniques (Agile, Waterfall, Hybrid models).
- Technical Literacy: Knowledge of IT infrastructure (e.g., networking, cloud platforms, SaaS, cybersecurity frameworks, identity management).
- Security Awareness: Understanding of security standards and frameworks (e.g., ISO 27001, NIST, SOC 2) and risk management principles.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills to identify project risks and drive practical resolutions.
- Cross-Functional Communication: Ability to effectively engage technical and non-technical stakeholders across various levels of the organization.
- Tool Mastery: Proficiency in project management and collaboration tools (e.g., Jira, Smartsheet, Confluence, MS Project).
- Time Management: Skilled at managing concurrent priorities, maintaining momentum, and meeting aggressive deadlines.
- Execution-Focused: Hands-on ability to drive projects across finish lines without losing sight of broader goals.
- Strategically Aligned: Ensures project work directly supports IT, security, and business strategic priorities.
- Adaptable: Comfortable navigating ambiguity, shifting requirements, and unexpected obstacles in a fast-paced environment.
- Quality and Compliance Mindset: Maintains focus on secure, scalable, and compliant outcomes across all project work.
- Stakeholder-Centric: Builds trust through transparency, accountability, and reliable delivery.
- Minimum of 5 years of project management experience, including at least 3 years focused on IT and/or cybersecurity initiatives.
- Hands-on experience managing infrastructure upgrades, security tool implementations, system integrations, or compliance-driven projects.
- Experience coordinating projects across internal technical teams and external vendors.
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Cybersecurity, Business, or a related field.
- Project Management certifications (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2, PMI-ACP, or equivalent) highly preferred.
- Security-related certifications (e.g., Security+, CISM, CISSP) are a strong plus but not mandatory.
