Lead Tax Accountant - Australian Clients

Hi! We’re Smartsourcing, looking for a Lead Tax Accountant - Australian Clients, who can work with us full-time and on-site!

Where? JEG Tower, Archbishop Reyes, Corner Acacia St., Barangay Kamputhaw, Cebu City, Cebu

As the Lead Tax Accountant - Australian Clients, you’ll oversee our Cebu-based team, ensuring the seamless delivery of client work for the Melbourne teams. This role combines technical expertise, team management, and a passion for mentoring to drive productivity, quality, and alignment with our core values.

Some of the things we expect you to do are to:

• Oversee the workflow of the Cebu team, resolving issues proactively to ensure deadlines are met.
• Coach, mentor, and provide feedback to develop team members’ skills and knowledge.
• Build diverse teams with a strong sense of morale and belonging.
• Manage training programs, including the Graduate Program calendar, to achieve learning outcomes.
• Conduct team performance reviews and delegate tasks effectively based on skills and experience.
• Ensure team productivity meets targets by upskilling members and managing response times.
• Deliver high-quality accounting files and respond promptly to internal client requests (within 24 hours).
• Maintain visible capacity reporting to align team performance with Melbourne’s client deliverables.
• Review and sign off on work papers, ensuring compliance with statutory obligations, best practices, and our partners’ standards.
• Stay updated with the latest accounting and tax industry knowledge.
• Mitigate client risk by implementing proactive measures to protect the business.
• Use Karbon workflow systems to manage tasks and productivity effectively.
• Support Melbourne teams in achieving monthly billing targets by facilitating timely client work delivery.
• Contribute to new ways of working, driving change, and promoting collaboration between sites.

We would need you to be or have the following:

• CA/CPA Qualified.
• Demonstrated knowledge of Australian tax laws and compliance.
• Extensive experience in accounting and team management within a professional services environment.
• Strong leadership capabilities, with a proven ability to coach and mentor a high-performing team.
• Expertise in Australian tax compliance and accounting principles.
• Advanced proficiency in Xero and Karbon systems.
• Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills to build rapport with clients and staff.
• A proactive, results-driven mindset with a focus on innovation and continuous improvement.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure and meet deadlines consistently.
