Work Location In-person, UNIC Manila Expected duration 6 Months Duties and Responsibilities The global network of United Nations Information Centres (UNICs) is part of the Campaigns and Country Operations Division of the Department of Global Communications. It is key to the Organization’s ability to reach the peoples of the world and to share the United Nations story with them in their own languages. These centres, working in coordination with the UN system, reach out to the media and educational institutions, engage in partnerships with governments, local civil society organizations and the private sector, and maintain libraries and electronic information resources. Just as UNICs are the principal sources of information about the United Nations system in the countries where they are located, they are also responsible for promoting greater public understanding of and support for the aims and activities of the United Nations by disseminating information on the work of the Organization to people everywhere, especially in developing countries. This internship is located in the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Manila, Philippines, and is offered for a period of 6 months. UNIC Manila’s mission is to promote the values and impact of the UN in the Philippines, supporting the communication of all United Nations agencies in the country. The internship is unpaid with offline/in-person working arrangements. The Intern is expected to work five days per week (35 hours) or on an agreeable time arrangement, under the supervision and support of a staff member from the office to which they are assigned. Duties may include, but are not limited to: • Assist in the content planning and development of inter-agency campaigns (including social media editorial plans, writing and editing a range of communication materials) • Help in the development of social media and web content (articles, posts, photos, videos, layout and graphic design) • Help amplify UNIC/UN Philippines relevant outreach or campaigns in grassroots youth networks or other key targets demographic as well as via partners • Assist in identifying potential partners (private sector, academe, civil society, influencers) for various outreach/campaigns, amplification of messages • Perform other related duties, as required Qualifications/special skills Please note that to qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent) Applicants must also: - Be computer literate in standard software applications - Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter - Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. - We encourage applications from individuals from disadvantaged and/or underrepresented backgrounds, including those who may not have had prior access to international work experience. Candidates for our internship positions are not required to have professional experience, though it can be of benefit to the office if you have interests, skills and knowledge in the areas below: • Communications, Public Relations, Social Sciences • Keen interest in international affairs, international organizations, management and change • Strong planning, drafting and communication skills • Proficiencies in standard software applications • Attention to detail and a passion for researching big-picture issues • Experience in consulting, policy work or executive management support is an advantage “No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme.
