What is the job?
The Finance Controller is responsible for overseeing financial operations within our dynamic organization. This role involves managing multi-location retail accounting, implementing accounting systems, ensuring regulatory compliance, and driving process improvements. The Controller will play a critical role in maintaining financial accuracy, producing timely reports, and supporting strategic decision-making across the organization.
Responsibilities:
• Oversee all accounting operations including Accounts Receivable (A/R), Accounts Payable (A/P), payroll, General Ledger (G/L), tax payments, revenue recognition, and inventory control. Ensure compliance with GAAP and timely processing of all financial transactions.
• Prepare and present accurate and timely financial statements and reports, including monthly, quarterly, and year-end statements, along with forecasts and budgets. Ensure financial data is delivered within established deadlines to support strategic decision-making.
• Conduct efficient month-end and year-end close processes, including ledger reviews and reconciliations. Implement and monitor internal controls and policies to ensure accurate data reporting and financial integrity.
• Assign work, manage staff workload, and supervise the accounting team to ensure compliance, accuracy, and timeliness of financial processes. Execute performance management plans and lead cross-training initiatives.
• Drive process improvements, automation, and AI initiatives within the finance department to enhance operational efficiency. Develop financial models to support long-term planning and decision-making.
• Manage local and federal tax reporting compliance, lead interactions with external auditors, and participate in annual reviews and audits. Ensure all reporting obligations are met on time.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience in retail accounting for service-oriented businesses, preferably in a multi-location setting.
• At least two (2) years of experience in a leadership or managerial role.
• Prior experience as an auditor or CPA license holder.
• E-commerce experience, particularly with Shopify platforms.
• Strong proficiency in accounting software systems, with experience transitioning between platforms.
• Demonstrated expertise in financial statement preparation, payroll processing, and regulatory compliance.
• Experience managing audits and serving as a liaison with external auditors.
• Proficiency in Dyanmics365, Microsoft Excel and other financial analysis tools.
• Must have a stable employment history.
