We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as Director, Digital Assets and Currencies Engineering.

Job Profile

Lead engineering for digital asset and currency (DACs), working across HSBC with the engineering teams of all businesses. Includes technology strategy, architecture, research into and deployment of new technologies and innovative vendors. Reports directly to the Group Head of Digital Assets and Currencies, and partners closely with engineering leads across the bank to create an effective enterprise-wide approach.

Principal Accountabilities And Responsibilities

• Work with colleagues across HSBC to define and lead the best technology approach for digital assets and currencies. Be a thought leader for the subject
• Work to ensure that HSBC understands relevant DACs technology developments and adopts the best approaches in this sector
• Ensure we have a clear, scalable and cost-efficient DACs technology strategy
• Capable of forming strong and effective relationships with peers across the organization to deliver this vision
• Lead thinking on DACs design choices, ensuring that realistic and valuable products are implemented
• Understand and manage relevant technology risks
• Work with colleagues and teams across businesses, technology and digital functions to further our DACs agenda
• Work with third party firms to help achieve goals and manage relationships, including fintechs, established vendors, and partners
• Working closely with commercial teams, ensure that our DACs offer is appealing and well understood by our customers
• Work to ensure that HSBC’s DACs technology strategy is known and well explained to all relevant stakeholders
• Provide insights into product, technology, and market trends, as well as identifying opportunities for further growth
• Externally represent HSBC in front of regulators and clients to explain our DACs technology approach
  
  

Key Requirements & Qualifications (e.g., for Business, Customers and Stakeholders; internal control environment, etc.)

• Proven experience in DACs, with a track record of successful product launches and management
• Proven track record of being part of and managing high-performing agile teams
• Strong knowledge of digital assets, along with how it may apply to a banking context
• Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to drive teams towards strategic goals
• Effective communicator who can work with multi-jurisdictional, cross-functional, geographically dispersed teams
• Strong and effective relationships with stakeholders which includes senior leadership
• Excellent problem-solving skills and strategic thinking capabilities in ambiguity and can “figure things out”
• Attention to detail, organised yet comfortable with ambiguity, with a flexible mindset to work under a fast-paced business and market environment
• Resourceful and results-oriented, open to find a way to get things done without sacrificing quality and integrity. No task is off limits
• Having a strong growth mindset and operate with an open mind, constantly thinking about how things can improve
  
  

Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications (For the role – not the role holder. Minimum requirements of the role)

• Scrappy get-it-done mindset with a hunger to tackle complicated and impactful business problems
• Knowledge of market trends, new technologies and Fintech products
• Strong strategic thinking, problem solving, and logical structuring abilities
• Ability to work with international teams across multiple time zones and continents
• Comfort with ambiguity; the ability to independently lay out and test clear hypotheses, and solve problems without well-defined direction
• Demonstrated experience in working with senior executives in matrix organization, delivering performance improvement and quality results
• Strong financial management and business management advisory skills
• Customer-focused with ability to pay attention to details and ensure tasks are completed on time at required levels of quality especially when under pressure and tight deadlines
• Advanced level of documentation skills through MS Excel, PowerPoint or other software
• Understanding of HSBC Value and HSBC Group systems - GPDM, TM1, Clarity, GMIS, Pioneer & Employee Central is a plus.
