Azure Cloud Systems Engineer

Position Summary:

We are looking for a skilled Azure Cloud Systems Engineer to take over the management and optimization of our Azure infrastructure following an implementation by an external consultant. The Azure Cloud Systems Engineer will ensure that the cloud environment is secure, scalable, and optimized to meet business requirements, with a specific focus on networking, security, and infrastructure management. You will collaborate with the SQL Database Administrator and other teams to maintain a robust and efficient Azure environment while managing the transition from the consultant. You will also be supporting our network infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Post-Implementation Management: Take over and manage the Azure infrastructure after implementation by a consultant, ensuring a smooth transition and ongoing management.
• Azure Networking: Manage and optimize Azure networking components, including Virtual Networks (VNets), Network Security Groups (NSGs), Azure Load Balancers, VPNs, and ExpressRoute connections.
• Knowledge Transfer: Work closely with the consultant to fully understand the Azure infrastructure, including network configurations, security protocols, and best practices.
• Infrastructure Maintenance: Maintain and optimize Azure services, ensuring scalability, security, and cost efficiency, particularly in relation to networking and data flows.
• Automation and Optimization: Refine existing automation scripts and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to enhance deployment and management processes.
• Security Management: Ensure that all security measures (firewalls, security groups, identity management) are maintained, and proactively address any security concerns or updates.
• Issue Resolution: Troubleshoot and resolve any network or infrastructure-related issues that arise during or after the transition from the consultant.
• Documentation: Develop and maintain detailed documentation of the Azure environment, including network configurations, infrastructure processes, and any changes made post-implementation.
• Collaboration: Work with the SQL Database Administrator and other teams to ensure that Azure networking and infrastructure components integrate seamlessly with business systems.
• Systems and Network Support: Support O365, EntraID, Google Workspace and network infrastructure to include switches, routers and firewalls (Sonicwall).
  
  

Qualifications

Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Experience:
• 3+ years of experience as a Cloud Engineer with a focus on Microsoft Azure.
• Experience with Azure networking components, including VNets, NSGs, load balancers, VPNs, and ExpressRoute.
• Proven experience with post-implementation management and optimization of cloud environments.
• Ability to quickly learn and take over existing cloud architectures.
• Previous experience as a Systems Administrator or Network Administrator
• Certifications: Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, or similar certifications are highly desirable. CCNA is a major plus.
• Technical Skills:
• Expertise in Azure services and cloud architecture.
• Strong knowledge of Azure networking, including configuration and troubleshooting of VNets, NSGs, VPNs, and load balancers.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like ARM templates, Terraform, or Bicep.
• Proficiency in scripting languages such as PowerShell and Azure CLI.
• Knowledge of Azure security best practices and compliance requirements.
• Demonstrated knowledge of network concepts including TCP/IP, Subnets, VPN’s, Routing and Switching
• Mid-level Powershell scripting experience
• O365 and EntraID mid-level administration experience
  

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with hybrid cloud environments.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
• Hands-on experience with Azure networking optimization and cost management.
• Amenable to work on-site, graveyard shift.
• Can start ASAP.
