Job summary
As a Custody Trade Capture and Settlements Manager within our Custody Operations team, you lead a team of eight team members responsible for processing custody client trades end-to-end. You ensure disciplined execution across trade capture, validation, settlement, and fails management while maintaining strong risk and control practices. You partner with internal stakeholders and clients to resolve breaks and answer trade status questions quickly and professionally. You also coach and develop the team through effective training, capacity planning, and succession planning.
Job responsibilities
- Manage workflow across the full life cycle of custody trades, from instruction capture through settlement
- Process and validate custody trades in line with established procedures and controls
- Oversee foreign exchange trade processing, including Treasury and agent (off-book currency) foreign exchange
- Monitor trade capture, fails management, and settlement activities to ensure timely completion
- Investigate and resolve settlement discrepancies, escalating through appropriate channels as needed
- Respond to client and internal queries regarding trade status, market practice, and settlement outcomes
- Lead daily operational management of the custody workflow, prioritizing to critical deadlines
- Maximize team capacity through resource planning, training plans, and succession planning
- Communicate strategic, regulatory, and process changes to the team and ensure readiness
- Maintain and continuously improve standard operating procedures aligned to policy and risk management needs
- Contribute to the strategic development and ongoing evolution of custody products and services
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Minimum five years of experience in financial services, with relevant experience in custody, fund services, or markets operations
- Demonstrated experience managing a team and delivering day-to-day operational outcomes
- Strong knowledge of the trade life cycle and the role of a custodian bank
- Working knowledge of foreign exchange processing, including Treasury versus agent (off-book currency) foreign exchange
- Familiarity with SWIFT MT54x messages and related market practices/nuances
- Operational subject matter expertise in reconciliation, settlements, fails management, and trade support
- Strong risk and control awareness, including the ability to prioritize workloads and meet critical deadlines
- Excellent client service skills, including the ability to handle difficult situations professionally
- Strong written and verbal communication skills across multiple channels with internal and external stakeholders
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
- Ability to perform under pressure and adapt to changing volumes while maintaining accuracy and quality, including flexibility to support early and late Asia-Pacific coverage shifts (approximately 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. start times)
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent
- Global custody or local custody experience
- Experience driving projects and process improvement initiatives in an operations environment
