Amentum, a global leader in advanced engineering, technical, and professional services serving the US government, allies, and critical infrastructure sectors, is seeking a Mess Attendant to support a unique US Navy program based on the island of Diego Garcia.
Job Responsibilities
The Mess Attendant is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and readiness of the dining areas and ensuring food service equipment and furnishings are in proper condition to provide a pleasant and efficient dining experience. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Dining Area Preparation:
Safety

As appropriate, each employee is responsible for completing all training requirements and fulfilling all self-aid/buddy aid responsibilities, participating in emergency response tasks, and serving on safety committees and teams.

Job Responsibilities
The Mess Attendant is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and readiness of the dining areas and ensuring food service equipment and furnishings are in proper condition to provide a pleasant and efficient dining experience. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Dining Area Preparation:
- Preparing the dining area for patron use in a timely and professional manner.
- Ensuring all food service equipment, tables, and chairs are clean, well-maintained, and properly arranged.
- Cleaning and arranging tables and dining areas to meet presentation and operational standards.
- Ensuring tablecloths are free of stains, spots, debris, wrinkles, and signs of wear, and are uniform in color and appearance.
- Cleaning and restocking all table containers (e.g., napkin dispensers, salt and pepper shakers, creamer and sugar holders, condiment holders).
- Ensuring condiment and supply holders are clean, operable, adequately stocked, and refrigerated as required to maintain freshness.
- Monitoring and maintaining the cleanliness and proper operation of dining area equipment.
- Promptly identifying and reporting damaged or malfunctioning equipment, furniture, or items for repair or replacement as needed.
- Maintaining dining spaces to provide an organized, clean, and welcoming atmosphere for all patrons.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 1 year of experience in food service, custodial, hospitality, or related roles.
- Knowledge of basic cleaning methods and the ability to follow established sanitation and presentation standards.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail to ensure dining areas meet cleanliness and readiness requirements.
- Effective communication skills to interact with team members and follow instructions.
- Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain compliance for the duration of deployment.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
- Prior experience in an austere OCONUS (Outside the Continental United States) environment with a multi-national workforce.
- Valid country driver’s license.
- Country visa (as required in line with the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide).
- Previous experience at military or government dining facilities, with an understanding of Navy food service practices.
- Familiarity with food service standards, protocols, and regulations in high-demand dining environments.
