We came across some interesting information dealing with the Medical Affairs function at pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.
Medical Affairs groups were originally established by pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies to facilitate peer-to-peer interactions between prescribing physicians and company representatives. The Medical Affairs Practice group at Campbell Alliance, a management consulting company focused on the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry, has a wealth of information about this subject available on their website.
The attached file is an article authored by Tim Dietlin and Keith Morris of Medical Affairs Practice titled “Optimizing the Impact of the Medical Affairs Function.” The article addresses the changes in Medical Affairs, including the separation from marketing, that has occcurred throughout the industry as a result of changing regulations and scientific demand.
